On Tuesday, the Assembly Committee on Social Justice Issues: The Promotion of Social Righteousness unanimously approved “Explore the Intersection of Gender and Race,” a resolution to study the position of women of color in church and society.

The committee also approved an amended version of “Loving Our Neighbors: Equity and Quality in Public Education (K–12),” which encourages attention to issues affecting public schools, racial ethnic students, families and communities in relation to the rising numbers of charter schools, private schools and home-schooling families.

In other actions, the committee approved a call to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the first social pronouncement of the PC(USA), a resolution to study violence against women and children on the Mexico-U.S. border, a resolution involving usury, a renewed commitment to the goals in Turn Mourning into Dancing and renewed efforts to promote the use of inclusive and expansive language for God and the people of God.
